Ingredients

Our secret ingredients consists of several minerals that produce fizzing over a period of several minutes.Though we can not share all of our secrets, most of our bath bombs are made of weak acids and a bicarbonate base.

In fact, we like making bath bombs so much, that we want you to try it for yourself.  There are many ways to make bath bombs at home and you can learn more by visiting Sudsy Science: Creating Homemade Bath Bombs.  This is a great article to lean how to do it yourself.

For those that want to buy from our special selection, most of our bath bombs contains essential oils that help you relax.

How do they work

So a Bath Bomb, when dropped in water, converts our secret ingredients like citric acid and sodium bicarbonate to sodium citrate and carbon dioxide. This produces our infamous fizzing reaction that many people love.  Some of our soaps and bath bombs can have lathering agents such as sodium lauryl sulfate and they often are added to create a foaming reaction.  Let's face it, sometimes we want a little bit of foam in our bath water.

We take special care to avoid any ingredients that can irritate the skin.  That's why we test our fragrances and dyes and try to bring to you bath bombs that do not have skin irritants.  Generally speaking, citric acid and sodium bicarbonate are not considered as skin irritants when used as a bath additive. The key is that large amount of water helps dilute these ingredients.

Some of our bath bombs may include limonene, linalool, and soduim lauryl sulfate.  These ingredients are considered to be allergens and may be found in some of our competitors soaps and bath bombs.  We try to stay away from these a much as possible, but as a large portion of our customers like a nice foam in their bath, we do add soduim lauryl sulfate to some of our products.

To make it easy for you, our products list the ingredients right on the packaging. We want everyone's bath time experience to be enjoyable and relaxing so if you have any concerns, please feel free to look at the front of your bath bomb at the ingredients.

I know that when I first started soaking, I did not know what these ingredients were.  So I wanted to take the time to share with you what to look for in your bath bombs.  No one wants an unpleasant bath experience, so I hope that this information is useful.

A little bit of History

It wasn't too long ago that Internet blew up with social media hash tags and memes talking stating ("Love my new bath bomb!"). In fact my Twitter and Facebook accounts had posts tagged with #BathBombing.

My favorite was a meme that showed someone tossing a bomb emoji into water.  Shortly there after all sorts of parities could be seen form eggs being tossed into water to teenagers mocking the trend with their own set of memes.

I cannot really say why this happened but what I can share is that a lot of folks like taking a bath.  And.... anytime you can add a little fragrance, colorant, or essential oils, well now we are talking about making that bath more relaxing and enjoyable.

No on really  knows when the first bath bomb was created, but here at ItsTheBomb, we like to believe that we have been part of the movement.  Let's face it, adding a splash of bath oil or salt into water is great for your skin.  For added fun, we saw that adding a mix of fizzy ingredients, colorants, and some surprises (rose petals, glitter, and my personal favorite - a Bullet vibrator), could change the mood.  So bath bombs became a way to expand bath water into something more.

Unfortunately there have been some ingredients that can cause skin irritation.  We do our best to minimize those.  For those with skin sensitivity, pay attention to products that include limonene, linalool, and alpha-isomethyl ionone.  There are a few other ingredients that can cause skin irritation and the industry has definitely evolved to be as transparent as possible.  Let's face it.  We want our bath water to have psychedelic blend of colors and scents not send us to the doctor's office.

The Benefits about Aromatherapy

Here is an introduction to Aromatherapy and how some of our products offer that those types of benefits. First, Aroma therapy has the potential to treat conditions such as asthma, arthritis, menopause, menstrual issues, peripheral neuropathy, inflammation, and fatigue. There are also many benefits like boosting immunity, managing pain, reduce stress, agitation, and anxiety.

Aroma therapy treatment works through the sense of smell and skin absorption. Using diffusers, aromatic spritzers, inhalers, bathing salts, body lotions, bath bombs, and clay masks are effective ways of efficiently using aroma therapy. This is where we come in as we use essential oils in our soaps and bath bombs.  There are about one hundred different essential oils for aroma therapy. Here are some of the most popular types and some we feature in our bath salts, soaps, and bath bombs: clary sage, cypress, eucalyptus, ginger, lavender, lemon, neroli, rose, roman chamomile, tea tree, and rosemary.

Additionally, you can use essential oils in many ways. You should always use a carrier oil when applying directly to your skin and avoid sun exposure when applying citrusy oils to your skin as these types of oils can make your skin sensitive to the sun. Besides applying it to your skin other uses include facial toner, shampoo, and conditioner, liquid soaps, bar soaps, toothpaste, mouthwash,  and you can even put them in a bath. At our website we like to put our oils into bath bombs, soaps, and bath salts.  Plus our products make great gifts as well.
